Intel Corp. will supply chips to Mobileye (MBLY) and Delphi Automotive (DLPH) for use in their joint self-driving vehicle venture, Reuters reported on Tuesday citing Delphi vice president of engineering Glen De Vos.
The supply deal with Mobileye and Delphi represents a boost for the California-based chipmaker, which has been trying to broaden its chip dominance in the autonomous vehicle market, the report noted.
De Vos added that the self-driving system being developed by the two companies would likely debut in a commercial vehicle operating in a limited area, such as a ride-hailing service or airport shuttle. Mobileye and Delphi Automotive first unveiled in August plans to develop an automated driving solution by 2019.
